Occupational Therapy, Interactive Metronome
Jena Northen: As an occupational therapist, Jena applies a holistic approach to health care services. The social, emotional, and physiological effects of an illness, injury or disorder are taken into account in an attempt to help the individual achieve a maximum level of function and independence in all of their life roles. Much of her philosophy has always included empowerment of the individual to better understand their illness, injury or disorder and to give them tools or skills to reach their potential. Jena has chosen to incorporate neurotherapy and other types of biofeedback modalities into her practice as a natural compliment to traditional occupational therapy. Neurotherapy and biofeedback modalities, used in conjunction with traditional OT, serve to improve the efficiency and benefit of each. Together, they enhance a person´s potential for positive growth and change.
Jena has experience in a variety of settings and has had the pleasure of working with people of all ages. She sees clients both privately and through contractual agreements with agencies offering occupational therapy services. Experiences include working with people diagnosed with neurological, orthopedic, developmental and psychosocial disorders. Some of her work includes co-leader of camps for children with disabilities (including handwriting camps), outpatient rehabilitation, residential rehabilitation, home health, and private, individual therapy. She has been practicing as an independent contractor since 1998.
Jena received her Masters of Science degree in Occupational Therapy from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1993. Jena is certified by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy and is a licensed practitioner with Virginia Board of Medicine. She is an EEG Biofeedback/Neurofeedback provider, and a certified provider for Interactive Metronome (IM).
